The
most common use for Graduated Neutral Density camera filters, (also
called
split ND), is to
balance the exposure
difference between
the sky and the foreground, allowing you to retain the
natural colors and
detail without over-exposing (i.e.,
"washing out") parts of the image. The most common type of graduated ND camera filter is a 2 f-stops. All Round ND Split Gradual filters come in rotating rings. The Tiffen Grads, Hoya and Sunpak graduals are 2 f-stops (0.6), excellent filter tools to improve your skies.
