Landscape photographers have long understood the benefits of ultra-wide angle lenses, but their design constraints made the use of filters virtually impossible. Now, the SW150 Mark II filter system opens up opportunities for the creative use of filters, without the need to be concerned about vignetting.

The SW150 Mark II filter holder comes assembled with two filter slots and includes the SW150 Lightshield, enabling you to use neutral density graduated filters in combination with other filters. The included lightshield helps to prevent unwanted back reflections and creates a light tight seal enabling the use of Big Stopper.

The Lee Big Stopper is a neutral density filter that reduces the amount of light entering your cameras lens by ten f/stops. By greatly extending exposure times the Lee Big Stopper has the effect of allowing anything that is moving in your image to become blurred or ghost like, for example clouds get wispy, waterfalls look silky, rivers become ribbons of color, and the ocean so mystical. The Lee Big Stopper ND filter can also be used on city landscapes to blur people or on roads and highways to blur traffic.

This new polarizing filter for the SW150 Mark II is a must have tool in the photographer's camera bag. It removes reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as glass and water, and it increases color saturation and deepens blue skies, making white clouds stand out in sharp relief.

Normally, light waves vibrate in all places at right angles to the direction of its travel. Polarized light, however, vibrates in only one plane. A polarizing filter, therefore, allows through only those waves which vibrate in the plane parallel to the lines in the filter. By rotating the filter, certain waves pass through it, while others bounce off. It is this process of cutting out certain waves of light from reflected surfaces that makes colors appear more saturated. In addition, because much of the light in the sky on a clear, sunny day is polarized, the polarizing filter removes these waves, hence the appearance of a deeper, stronger blue in the final image.

A hard edge graduated filter is characterized by a very sharp transition between the clear and neutral density sections of the filter. A hard edge grad allows the photographer to control with great precision the desired effect of the image – especially when the transition between two areas in the frame is particularly abrupt, such as a flat horizon line over the ocean. The effect of the filter ‘carrying over’ from one part of the frame to another would be undesirable.

The SW150 Big Stopper & SW150 Circular Polarizer both come in a protective Metal tin.
