Lee Filters SW150 Ultimate Kit for Olympus 7-14mm

Landscape photographers have long understood the benefits of ultra-wide angle lenses, but their design constraints made the use of filters virtually impossible. Now, this all-inclusive Kit that includes the re-designed SW150 Mark II filter system will open up opportunities for the creative use of filters, without the need to be concerned about vignetting.

The SW150 Mark II filter holder comes assembled with two filter slots and includes the SW150 LightShield, enabling you to use neutral density graduated filters in combination with other filters.

The SW150 Mark II filter holder also comes fitted with a Lightshield. The shield helps to prevent unwanted back reflections and creates a light tight seal enabling the use of both the Little and Big Stopper.

The Lee Big Stopper and Little Stopper are long-exposure filters that allows you to extend the exposure by approximately ten stops with the Big Stopper and six stops with the Little Stopper, permitting either a longer shutter speed or a wider aperture – or a combination of the two. In the past, such long exposures have been problematic because of the potential for light leaks, but the Big Stopper and Little Stopper feature a foam gasket which fits firmly against the filter holder and ensures that a light tight seal is achieved.

The Big Stopper is an amazing filter and has forever changed long exposure photography. The Lee Big Stopper is a 10-Stop ND Filter that will produce breathtaking images. With the Big Stopper, just a single filter allows you, the photographer, to increase the exposure to many minutes, rendering clouds soft, water smooth and milky, car headlights as streaks of color, or people as abstract, blurred figures.

At six stops, the Little Stopper is ideal for those low-light conditions at the beginning and end of the day (when the Big Stopper's ten stops may prove too much), allowing you to enjoy increased flexibility with exposure lengths. In many shooting conditions, this means that detail and texture in areas of movement such as the sky and water would be retained, while still conveying a sense of time passing.

This new SW150 polarizing filter is a must have tool in the photographer’s camera bag. It removes reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as glass and water, and it increases color saturation and deepens blue skies, making white clouds stand out in sharp relief. Normally, light waves vibrate in all places at right angles to the direction of its travel. Polarized light, however, vibrates in only one plane. A polarizing filter, therefore, allows through only those waves which vibrate in the plane parallel to the lines in the filter. By rotating the filter, certain waves pass through it, while others bounce off. It is this process of cutting out certain waves of light from reflected surfaces that makes colors appear more saturated. In addition, because much of the light in the sky on a clear, sunny day is polarized, the polarizing filter removes these waves, hence the appearance of a deeper, stronger blue in the final image. One of the main functions of the polarizer is to cut polarized light from blue skies. This results in an increase in contrast between the sky and any white clouds in the scene. The effect is at its strongest when the filter is used at a 90-degree angle to the sun.

The Lee Filters SW150 Graduated ND Soft Edge Filter Set comprises of 3 professional quality neutral density graduated filters (ND 0.3, 0.6, 0.9) with Soft graduations. The transition between the clear and neutral density portions of a soft edge graduated filter is less sharp and more subtle than in a hard edge graduated filter. A soft edge grad filter is recommended when the variation in light readings within a scene is less pronounced or the horizon line has any deviation, such as mountains, trees or rock formations. The soft edge grad filter is also used on occasions when the effect of a hard edge grad would be apparent in the resulting image, showing as a ‘line’ across the composition. The transition in tones, from bright to dark, should appear very natural when using a soft grad.

The Lee Filters SW150 Graduated ND Hard Edge Filter Set comprises of 3 professional quality neutral density graduated filters (ND 0.3, 0.6, 0.9) with Hard graduations. A hard edge graduated filter is characterized by a very sharp transition between the clear and neutral density sections of the filter. A hard edge grad allows the photographer to control with great precision the desired effect of the image – especially when the transition between two areas in the frame is particularly abrupt, such as a flat horizon line over the ocean. The effect of the filter ‘carrying over’ from one part of the frame to another would be undesirable.

The Lee Filters range of true, neutral density (ND) graduated filters enables the photographer to selectively adjust exposure across the frame without affecting color balance. Neutral Density Grad Filters are truly the essential filters for the landscape photographer. The most common use for Neutral Density grad would be to balance the exposure difference between the sky and the foreground, retaining the natural colors and detail without over-exposing and "burning out" part of the image.

The SW150 Big Stopper, SW150 Little Stopper & SW150 Polarizer all come in a protective Metal tin.
