This ring is part of the M15 filter holder and serves as a step ring between the filter holder and the lens specific adapter ring. The lens specific adapter ring (77mm or Tamron 15-30mm for example) will attach to this main ring. The main ring allows you to connect the M15 filter holder to the lens specific adapter rings in the M15 series.
